During the first session, Dr. Farber will take a comprehensive history and spend time getting to know your specific health picture. She uses a combination of traditional Chinese medicine diagnostics and palpation to gain an understanding of your physical and emotional state. If appropriate, you will receive treatment including acupuncture and bodywork and herb/supplement recommendations. The initial visit lasts up to two hours.

The best way to prepare is to eat a snack or a light meal before treatment so your body has sufficient energy to work with. If possible it is best to wear loose clothing so that your arms and legs are accessible for treatment.

The number of treatments will vary from person to person. Some people experience immediate relief; others may take months or even years to achieve results. Chronic conditions usually take longer to resolve than acute ones. Treatment frequency depends on a variety of factors: particularly your constitution and the severity and duration of the problem. Dr. Farber aspires to treating her patients as quickly as possible, keeping the frequency and duration of treatments to a minimum.

Many insurance plans cover acupuncture from a licensed provider. Dr. Farber provides detailed super bills that make it easy to submit to your insurer.

Write down and bring any questions you have. Fill out the intake form you receive with your appointment confirmation. Wear loose, comfortable clothing for easy access to acupuncture points. Do not eat large meals just before or after your visit. Refrain from overexertion, working out, drugs or alcohol for up to six hours after the visit. Avoid stressful situations. Make time to relax, and be sure to get plenty of rest. Between visits, take notes of any changes that may have occurred, such as the alleviation of pain, pain moving to other areas, or changes in the frequency and type of problems.
